Painting

Sarah F Burns is a lifelong Oregonian who makes oil paintings in the European tradition from her rural American point of view. Best known for Southern Oregon landscapes, she documents the region’s changing history using classical methods and materials, creating work meant to last for generations and become part of the historical record. Her paintings invite viewers to revisit shared places and tell their stories.

Burns studied at Pacific Northwest College of Art and Ashland Academy of Art, and trained with contemporary Atelier artists including Ben Fenske, Michael Grimaldi, and Dan Thompson. She received the Haines & Friends Visual Arts Grant, the Friends of the Cascade-Siskiyou Monument Creations Residency and was the inaugural Siskiyou Crest Artist in Residence. She partners with local ecological and agricultural groups to explore, highlight and better understand the land they share and love.
