Biography
Bruce Bayard is primarily a self-taught artist, who started painting in oils at the age of 9. He was an art major for one semester at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, with the intention of becoming a master lithographer through the Tamarind Institute. Instead, he returned to his home in Southern California and became a printmaker for artists at Spectrum Press in Orange. There he explored multiple styles of intaglio printing including aquatint, engraving, drypoint, and photogravure, plus lithography, serigraphy, and collagraphy.
Finding printmaking tedious, he began experimenting with all types of media and mixed media including acrylic, oil, encaustic, collage, crayon, pencil, toner transfer, assemblage, and ultimately, creating digital image composites on the computer beginning in 2000.
His interest in modern dance led him to produce multiple dance festivals at the Craterian Theater, Medford, Oregon, and he took the lead in establishing the Public Arts Commission in Ashland. Those experiences helped him in realizing his own performances, and as cofounder of The Talent Gallery.
Artist Statement
I am a multi-media artist who enjoys pushing together images using digital tools. In addition to my 2D work, I produce time-based collage, projected in live performances, while improvising on electronic music instruments. At The Talent Gallery, my focus is on two-dimensional image collages that are derived from a vast collection of travel images, abstract textures, and graphic iconography composed randomly using HTML code, CSS and hacked Javascript. I also like to tag and weatherize N-Scale model trains.
